Layton Wins 2010 Best of State Award

The Layton Companies received a 2010 Best of State Award in the "Construction-Commercial" category and was recognized with other winners at a black-tie gala at in the Grand Ballroom at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City on May 29, 2010. The awards were created to recognize outstanding individuals, organizations and businesses in the state of Utah and inspire others to reach higher, try harder and work longer in order to achieve their dreams and goals.

Candidates for the Best of State awards were judged on three criteria:

1. Achievement in the field of endeavor - evidence for this achievement includes recognition from peers, the development of superior products, company growth or expansion and awards won. Layton's projects have received several awards in the past year, including Mountain States Construction "Best of" Awards and ACI Excellence in Concrete Awards. Additionally, Layton has opened two new offices outside of Utah in the midst of the economic recession, thus strengthening and expanding the companies' geographical reach.

2. Innovation or creativity in approaches, techniques, methods or processes - winners showed that they had achieved positive results and differentiated themselves from others within their field through the use of innovative and creative means. Layton is committed to seeking out the best methods and techniques to complete construction projects. Value engineering processes are used to ensure that owners get high quality, functional, cost effective buildings.

3. Contribution to improving the quality of life in Utah - winners have made Utah a better place through community service, charitable contributions, family-friendly employment opportunities and contribution to a strong economy. Layton employs hundreds of Utahns and supports employees with paid time off as well as numerous company gatherings (luncheons, holiday parties, etc.) throughout the year. Layton employees are active participants in various community service groups, including the Boy Scouts of America and Boys and Girls Clubs of America, and serve on various boards within their communities and the construction industry. Layton has been involved with several projects that have achieved or are aiming for LEED® certification or that have been built with green standards in mind and employs more than 25 LEED APs within the companies. Projects completed by Layton allow Utahns to study and become educated, to worship, to heal and to enjoy recreational time with family and friends. The projects built by Layton allow Utahns to live better, more fulfilling lives.

Layton is proud of the people and practices that have come to define the company in its 57 years of business. In the words of the late Alan W. Layton, founder of The Layton Companies, "Our hallmark has been and should always be quality - not only in the construction project, but the way we treat our employees and clients."
