Layton Begins Work on Addition to Mountain West Medical Center

Ground was broken in early November on an addition to Mountain West Medical Center in Tooele, Utah that will more than double the capacity of the facility's women services. Layton Construction built the existing Mountain West Medical Center and Medical Office Building in 2002 and has been selected to complete the hospital's addition.

The project consists of the construction of a roughly 16,000-square-foot women's center that will be built attached to the northwest of the hospital and will have its own private entrance with walkways connecting it to the main building. The expanded women's services will include eight labor and delivery rooms (the facility currently has three), five postpartum rooms (compared to four in the current hospital) and a separate room for cesarian section procedures and other gynecological surgeries.

Additionally, the project includes the expansion of the hospital's surgical services. The existing labor and delivery area will be converted into two endoscopy rooms and eight pre-procedure rooms. The existing endoscopy room will be converted into a fourth operating room.

The addition to the hospital is being built in response to rapid growth in Tooele and its surrounding communities. The project is expected to be complete in early 2011.
