The Alcohol Beverage Control Warehouse is the storage center and general distribution facility for all alcoholic beverages sold in the state of Utah. Layton built the original facility in 1994 and in 2003 was contracted to build the large 20,000 ft2 addition.

The addition consists primarily of storage and warehouse space. The rack-support system stands over 100 feet tall. The warehouse also features an automated retrieval system, one of only three in the state at the time of construction. To ensure the highest construction quality, Layton worked simultaneously with ESKAY, the world’s leader in ASRS systems integration.

Because of the storage requirements for alcoholic products, the entire structure is required to maintain a constant temperature of 65 degrees. This presented a challenge with the high ceilings also needed in the facility. Layton achieved the temperature requirements through preplanning and excellent mechanical design and construction.

Since the existing facility had to remain fully operational during construction, Layton worked closely with the owner to minimize disruptions in the area and to protect products from damage.
