The Ada County Jail Medical Unit is a standalone addition to the Ada County Jail campus that replaced the existing 10-bed unit. The project was constructed in a parking lot and jail yard area immediately south of the existing Cell Block C Housing Unit and is connected to the existing facility by a sallyport/vestibule at the south entry door to Pod C.
The new Medical Unit consists of three main areas: the clinic, infirmary and the mental heath unit. The Medical Unit provides 41 new medical beds plus 42 new mental health beds for a total of 83 beds.
The clinic is divided into secured inmate areas and staff areas that are not accessible to inmates and will include medical exam rooms, dental exam room, pharmacy, lab, offices and staff support areas.
The 41 beds in the infirmary are allocated into multi-bed wards, four isolation cells and ten high risk / mental health cells that open into separate dayrooms for the male and female inmate populations. A multiple occupancy sobering area for both males and females also is included in the infirmary area.
The Mental Health Unit is composed of three 14 bed wards with the associated support areas.
