Deseret Generation & Transmission Cooperative contracted with Layton to construct a new facility using the design-build method. The facility has a steel frame with a masonry veneer.
During construction, Layton faced many challenges, including unstable soil conditions and a steep sloping site, which needed to be reconstructed. The client, an energy company, decided to install ground system heating. Layton drilled more than 60 wells under the building and parking lot to harness the heat from the ground. Layton worked closely with the architect and engineers to ensure the heating system was properly built. Using this system, the owner saved more than $9,000 in maintenance costs the first year. |
