This new surgical/cancer wing at the Gila Regional Medical Center provides the only outpatient surgery facilities within 100 miles of the city. To meet current codes, several areas of the existing hospital were renovated. The project includes a two-story addition that ties into the existing hospital.

The first floor has a 5,000 ft2 chemotherapy and radiation cancer center. It has a reception area, four exam rooms, two overnight exam rooms, an eight-chair group chemotherapy room, a 1,700 ft2 radiation vault surrounded by 600 yards of concrete shielding and several support rooms for the cancer operations in this space.

The second floor contains 7,000 ft2 of new surgical space. This area was completed as phase II and opened to the public in February 2006. It has two large state of the art operating rooms, six prep and recovery rooms, a large waiting area and additional storage space desperately needed in the operation department. This addition ties into the existing surgical suite allowing use of all facilities. Additional paved parking has been provided with this project.

These projects are funded by a grant from the state legislature.
