Because of community demand, IASIS Healthcare contracted with Layton to convert the geriatric-psych area of a 35-year-old existing hospital into a women’s center. The existing systems were replaced with a new nurse call, fire alarm, medical-gas and a hyperbaric room, which houses three chambers.

There are a total of 6 new neonatal-ICU beds, 14 level 1 nursery beds, 6 post-partum rooms, 6 labor and delivery rooms, 4 new sleep lab beds and 2 new c-section/ER rooms. Layton also installed a new HVAC system, including new air handling equipment, a boiler and new ductwork. A new roof was also placed over the renovated areas.

Because part of the facility was occupied, infection control was extremely high priority. Layton used a temporary wall, dust walls, negative air machines and signage in order to inform the public of construction and keep them safe. In addition, construction was phased in several areas.
