Faena Forum

Size:
153,000 SF

Location:
Miami Beach, FL

The famed Faena Forum in Miami Beach has mega-star power – Madonna was the opening act.

The theater is the striking centerpiece of the Faena District West of Collins which stretches along the Atlantic beachfront. The development dynamically integrates cultural, residential, hotel, retail, culinary and public environments.

The Forum includes a 51,000 SF arts center, 7,000 SF performance hall, 32,000 SF retail center, and a 63,000 SF parking structure.

The center is divided into two volumes – a cylinder that accommodates gathering spaces and a cube of hotel and meeting rooms. Each volume has a distinct form and character. The two halves of the Assembly Hall can be used separately or in combination for a variety of uses.

The interior features a lobby amphitheater sporting Rosa Portugal pink marble floors and is set up for surround projections.

Below the cylinder, an exterior plaza along Collins Avenue was created. The cantilever, which shelters and shades the outdoor plaza, is supported by a structural facade of white cast-in-place concrete with high performance glazing infill panels.

Eccles Theater

Size:
183,000 SF

Location:
Salt Lake City, UT

The new Eccles Theater has won non-stop applause from business leaders as well as arts patrons.

The first touring Broadway show to open at the theater — “The Lion King” on March 23, 2017 — brought an estimated $20 million to downtown Salt Lake City in three weeks.

The Eccles Theater is a state-of-the-art, 2,500-seat Broadway-style venue within the heart of Salt Lake City. In addition to the elegant and spacious performance hall, the theater features an expansive lobby, a galleria, a black box theater, several lounges and public meeting spaces.

“This sends a message to the business community that Salt Lake City is competitive at a macro-level,” says Justin Belliveau, former CEO of the Salt Lake City Redevelopment Agency. “We’ve heard from Goldman Sachs, which doubled its footprint here, that Salt Lake City is at the top of the list of where their employees want to work. We’ve always had unparalleled outdoor opportunities, but now we are competitive in other areas, too.”

Hale Centre Theatre

Size:
131,000 SF

Location:
Sandy, UT

Hale Centre Theatre is a one-of-a-kind venue. Designed as a "latern to the community," it is home to hundreds of sold-out performances a year.

The new performing arts center sits on 2.9 acres, and features two theatres comprising a total of 1,361 seats. The theatre-in-the-round center theatre boasts 900 seats while the separate proscenium-thrust theater holds 461.

The facility features state-of-the-art sound and lighting, generous backstage areas, dressing rooms, a stunning grand lobby with a large concessions area and administrative offices. But the star of show, as it were, is the articulated stage in the main theater, where the rotating stage gives the entire audience an intimate view of the performance. It also makes set changes easier because the stage is lowered out of sight rather than having to place the sets from a traditional theater fly-loft.

The stage is the first of its kind in innovative stage automation and includes 47 pieces of moving machinery powered by 130 motors. Two overhead crane trolleys with eight hoists are capable of moving 16 individual pieces or performers during a production.

Performing Arts Center at Mesa Community College

Size:
42,000 SF

Location:
Mesa, AZ

The Performing Arts Center is a multifunction facility dedicated to the celebrated Mesa Community College music, dance and theater programs.

The project reused approximately 75% of an existing movie theater, including the walls, floors, and roof for back of house components and classrooms, dramatically reducing construction waste. New construction expanded the original building from 26,000 square feet to 48,000 square feet.

The centerpiece of the facility is a 460-seat multipurpose theater designed to accommodate, both acoustically and theatrically, a broad range of musical performances.

In addition to the main theater, a full complement of back-of-house spaces, including performance classrooms, solo and group music practice spaces, faculty offices and a performance lobby space are outfitted into the old movie house.

The site made extensive use of water and energy efficient fixtures, reflective roofing, daylighting, permeable ground cover and native vegetation to help keep the facility sustainable.
